Placer County Animal Services got a call Friday morning you don’t hear every day: a full-grown zebra was loose near the Lincoln-Sheridan border, not far from Old Highway 65.

The zebra, Zeus, had apparently slipped out during the storm after pushing past a fence on his owner’s property. The animal is legally owned, but bad weather and a weak spot in a fence will do what it does.

Animal control officers showed up and handled it the way you’d hope. No circus, no pile-up, no nonsense. Just a clean response and a zebra brought in safe. Zeus spent the night at the county facility, stayed calm, and by Saturday he was checked out and sent back home.

Credit to Katie Ingram and the Placer County Animal Services team. Quick, professional, no drama. They did the job and didn’t turn it into a show.

Around here, most of what passes for “news” is smash-and-grabs, stolen converters, and politicians talking like they just discovered public safety last week. So it’s a little refreshing when something this simple actually goes right.

Fence goes down in a storm. Zebra takes a walk. Animal control brings him back. That’s it.

Zeus is home. Lincoln goes back to normal.
