A crowd swarmed a Waymo self-driving car in San Francisco late Saturday night, shattered the glass, climbed and jumped all over it, and left the vehicle destroyed. Video posted to X by @Breaking911 shows vandals laughing, cheering, and treating the attack like entertainment.
San Francisco might be trying to course-correct now, but ever since the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020, the city has been ground zero for failed experiments in “reimagined” policing. Former Mayor London Breed’s $120 million cuts to the Sheriff’s Office and SFPD, sold as enlightened reform, gutted enforcement. Under her “rehabilitation over incarceration” doctrine, criminals figured out they could terrorize neighborhoods and tear up property with no real consequence.
This story isn’t just about a self-driving car. It’s about a culture where people know they can do whatever they want and walk away clean. San Francisco’s shrinking population and its once-booming mall now hollowed out after countless “smash-and-grab” sprees show exactly what happens when you give criminals the run of the place.
From the rise of BLM to Democrats’ nonstop posturing against ICE, the same people who broke the system keep pretending the offenders are the victims.
You let crime slide long enough, you breed crowds that feel untouchable. And when a mob thinks nothing will happen to them, this is what you get, brazen destruction without a second thought.
San Francisco may finally be waking up. But anyone paying attention already knows the truth:
It only stops when we stop tolerating it.
