Koalas Are Dumb As Hell

By Dean Maddox, Public Safety & Crime Reporter

People love koalas. They’re on postcards, stuffed animals, cartoons—cute little furballs hugging trees. But the truth is, behind that fuzzy face is one of the dumbest animals on the planet. And not just slow—flat-out useless stupid.

For starters, their brains are smooth. Most animals have folds in their brains that give them more processing power. Koalas don’t. They’re packing the mental capacity of a busted lawnmower engine. That’s why they can’t figure out basic things. If you take eucalyptus leaves—the only thing they eat—pluck them off the branch, and put them on a plate, the koala won’t recognize it as food. It’ll just sit there, staring, starving with dinner served right in front of it.

And eucalyptus leaves aren’t even good for them. They’re low in nutrition and toxic as hell. That’s why koalas are slow and out of it most of the time—they’re basically stoned, living off poison salad. They sleep 18 to 20 hours a day just to survive on that garbage diet. Imagine a guy living on nothing but NyQuil and lettuce, and you’ve got a koala.

On top of that, they’re lousy parents. A stressed-out mother koala will sometimes kill her own joey. The ones that make it grow up to repeat the cycle of climbing trees, eating poison, and passing out. Not exactly inspiring.

But here’s the kicker—people still line up to take selfies with them, like they’re some symbol of wisdom or peace. The reality is, they’re a fur suit wrapped around a brain that doesn’t work. Cute? Sure. Smart? Not even close.

So next time you see a koala, don’t think “adorable.” Think “the dumbest thing alive, barely hanging on, stoned out of its mind.”
