Hundreds gathered at Jessup University on Thursday for the 75th Annual National Day of Prayer. Believers from across the Sacramento region joined in worship, fellowship and focused prayer for the nation and its key institutions.

The gathering took place on the university campus in Rocklin. Doors opened at 7 a.m. for quiet reflection and coffee. Breakfast and the main program began at 7:30 a.m. This year’s theme “Glorify God Among The Nations – Seeking Him In All Generations” drew from 1 Chronicles 16:24.

Interim President Dr. Parnell M. Lovelace, Jr. gave the keynote address. A Sacramento native, Dr. Lovelace founded Center of Praise Ministries in 1989. He has spent decades pastoring, mentoring leaders and reaching the marginalized with an emphasis on the next generation.

Prayer leaders addressed major spheres of society. Pastor Abe Daniel covered arts, media and entertainment. Jim Jessup prayed for churches. Pastor Francis Anfuso focused on law enforcement. Pastor Tamara Bennett addressed youth. Supervisor Bonnie Gore covered government. Don and Christa Proctor lifted up marriage and family. Des Nelson prayed for the military. Professor Eddie Romo addressed health and sciences. Erin Hill delivered an exhortation before the sessions and David Norona emceed the event.

President Harry S. Truman established the National Day of Prayer in 1952. President Ronald Reagan designated it as the first Thursday in May. Jessup University has observed the day as an annual tradition.

The morning emphasized unity and intercession for families, schools, government and communities. Organizers encouraged continued prayer across all generations amid present challenges.

Such gatherings underscore the continuing importance of faith and prayer in the public life of the Sacramento region.
