Fresh Snow Hits Mount Shasta: A Cool Reminder That Fall Is Here and Winter’s Coming

By Sacrameto Daily Press Staff

Mount Shasta received its first fresh layer of snow this week, offering a postcard-worthy glimpse of what’s to come as the seasons shift in Northern California. A recent photo shared by meteorologist Matt Hoffman, based out of KDRV in Medford, Oregon, shows the mountain dusted in white, with October clouds drifting across the treetops below.

According to the latest forecasts, more snow is expected Sunday night into Monday, a reminder that fall is well underway—and winter is right behind it.

Although the Mount Shasta Ski Park is currently closed, the mountain town remains a solid getaway option. For Sacramento residents looking to escape the city for a quiet weekend, Mount Shasta offers everything from art and craft fairs to scenic drives, cozy small-town restaurants, and breathtaking views.

The area has a rich history, from Native American roots to the writings of John Muir. Today, it attracts hikers, campers, retirees, and anyone seeking a break from the noise.

If the sight of snow stirs something in you, Mount Shasta is already waiting.
