Blackburn and Lee’s Anti-Bureaucracy Bill Has a Dangerous Flaw: It Screws Federal Cops

By Dean Maddox – Public Safety & Crime Reporter

Senators Marsha Blackburn and Mike Lee like to talk a big game about backing the blue. But a new bill they’ve introduced—S. 1006, the so-called “Federal Workforce Freedom Act”—does more damage to federal law enforcement than any left-wing protest or anti-cop media spin ever could.

On paper, the bill’s a classic Republican move: rein in bloated federal bureaucracies, stop unelected government unions from pumping campaign cash into the same politicians they bargain with, and put some power back in the taxpayers’ hands. Nothing wrong with that part. In fact, most of us on the right support the hell outta that.

But here’s the problem: in their effort to crack down on D.C. swamp creatures, Blackburn and Lee threw federal cops under the bus. The bill bans all federal employees from collective bargaining—including the very law enforcement officers risking their lives to protect this country. It wipes out every contract, every agreement, every protection they’ve fought for. And for what?

According to the Fraternal Order of Police—which represents more than 30,000 federal officers—this bill would be catastrophic. It strips these men and women of their basic workplace rights. No more negotiations over safety conditions. No more pushback when agencies cut corners. No more voice. Just silence.

And here’s the kicker: while police departments across the country are struggling to recruit and retain good officers, this bill makes the job less attractive. Fewer rights, more disrespect, and even less support from the very government they serve. It’s handing the “defund the police” crowd a gift-wrapped victory under the false flag of fiscal responsibility.

To be clear—cutting waste in D.C. is a noble goal. And most days, Blackburn and Lee are solid allies to law enforcement. But this time, they got it wrong. You don’t support cops by gutting their ability to fight for fair treatment. You don’t back the badge by taking away its last line of defense.

The FOP is right to oppose this bill. And so should every American who still gives a damn about public safety. Being tough on bureaucrats doesn’t mean being stupid about cops. There’s still time for Blackburn and Lee to fix this mess before it gets worse. Let’s hope they do.
