Bear Spotted in Auburn Neighborhood

By Dean Maddox, Public Safety & Crime Reporter

Life in Auburn sometimes means more than a neighbor knocking at your door — it can mean a bear wandering through the neighborhood.

On Sunday, Auburn Police confirmed a bear was spotted near Skyridge and Sacramento Street. Residents were urged to secure trash bins, keep pet food indoors, and use caution when walking pets or spending time outside.

Wildlife sightings are not uncommon in Auburn, given its location near canyon country. Bears typically roam into town in search of food, and unsecured garbage or pet food can encourage them to stay longer than they should.

Authorities emphasized that while most encounters end without incident, bears are powerful and unpredictable. If the animal shows signs of aggression or poses a threat to public safety, residents should immediately call 911.

For many locals, the incident is simply part of life in Auburn — a reminder that living close to the canyon comes with both beauty and risk. Deer, coyotes, and even the occasional bear are part of the landscape.

Police advise the community to remain vigilant and keep food sources locked up to discourage the bear from returning.

Stay safe, Auburn, and keep those lids tight.
